Here’s the Dirt…Sour Cream Cake

This is one of my Mother’s recipes. I remember her making this cake for many years. One of my favorite desserts is “toasted cake”. Take a slice of “Sour Cream Cake”, add a little butter and toast it in the oven. Great nighttime snack!

Sour Cream Cake

1 cup butter (2 sticks)
3 cups sugar
6 eggs separated
3 cups plain flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup sour cream

Beat egg whites until stiff, add 1/2 cup sugar and set aside. Cream butter and add remaining sugar. Add egg yolks and mix. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately to butter and sugar mixture with vanilla (first) and sour cream. Begin and end with flour. Fold in egg whites and pour into 2 loaf pans or into 1 tube pan ( greased with Pam).
Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
Enjoy!

  1. That's my Sour Cream Pound Cake recipe, only I don't whip the egg whites, just add them after creaming the butter and the sugar. This is the BEST pound cake ever!!
